i had signed up to be a super quiz judge at the decathlon for high school students. That was two months ago. two days ago two managers two levels above me invited me to a taskforce meeting to identify my road blocks and to accelerate my work. my previous post was my answer to them.
But since i had agreed to be a judge, i did not want to back out. So there I was expecting a quiz setting like in India, only to be on the opposite side this time around. But the format here is different and a little boring. Probably the topic of European Renaissance is not of my liking. I was just staring at questions like "which of the following is probably the greatest works of Mr X (italiano)?" and even better were the options that were provided [a] augustive IX [b] van percy V [c] T XV [d] Superbowl XL [e] unpronouncible III.
Whatever, it seems that the students were versed in that so good for them. But since this was a decathlon, I think the students were already stressed out everywhere else. It was nice to know about the various schools around town, and the rivalry that exists.
Our quizzes in india are more like the bbc mastermind (but that is a single person event). My old friend Hirak still has a quiz club at umich. Mine failed terribly while in undergrad, so i have not tried resurrecting that as yet. But this is also a shoutout to Arun K, Aditya K, Hirak P, Niranjan with whom we had solid experiences in our school life.

I love Quizzes...
Hi there!
apparently not jeopardy style :P
my brother was in an academic decathalon in HS.
i was in a triathalon in middleschool. it was fun.
That explains why u were so enthu during jeopardy (by HS)
Did you win any prizes in triathalon?
i don't remember. i don't think my team won :P
i was in the "gifted" program at my school. only the gifted kids go to go to the triathalon. but my school was really small and retarded, so the "gifted" ones were really not that gifted :P
'gifted' ..haah...
which school?
schools back home are intensively competitive (bocs of over population), nobody cares if you are 'gifted'. some teachers did .. bcos there are nice beings..
i lived in a town of 1000 ppl all together. my school was k-8th grade only 100 kids. most of ppl in that town are white trash, black, and mexican. if you are born there...u grow up there and u die there....kinda sucks...very few ppl get out.
salome ??
Good that ur in Tempe :-)
R is 'gifted'. Thats great!!! your comments sound as if your school-towm was small with scant population.
huh??
simple appreciation is also doubted nowadays.... you cant criticize and now you cannot even appreciate :)
i didn't even understand what it meant. :(
T2: how do u know about salome?
RN: HN told..
T1: u wrote 'gifted' - in single quotes....not even in double quotes.. or like this g-i-f-t-e-d. thats y..
my bad
i still don't get it...but oh well. i guess i'm not as 'gifted' as u :P
Simply put - its great to have an acquaintance who is gifted and who has an experience in academic triathlon
'Maska polish'
oh ok i get it... but my comment saying that i was "gifted" meant that i'm not really gifted becuase anyone remotely smart was considered "gifted".
but ya it was fun...we got to get out of our regular classes and do fun stuff :)
is it single quotes 'gifted' or double quotes "gifted" ?
what the difference?????
there is a huge difference..
it may make a difference to T2, but for me "gifted"='gifted'=g-i-f-t-e-d
Maska paalish, yes, i have to learn from the gurus.
"gifted" = you kinda mean that the person is gifted
'gifted' = you want to say the person is no way close to gifted
g-i-f-t-e-d = you really mean the person is gifted...
actually if i said someone was "gifted" then that means that they think they are gifted by not really.
or that they are gifted but i'm bitter and just mocking them :P
i don't think i would ever use the single quotes. thats just cause i was lazy to put the double ones.
this discussion is pretty retarded.
"its better to be late than never"
RN: atleast u figured it out now that this was 'Seinfeld discussion'
hahahahahahaha
