Actually there were two questions zipping in the head -
[1] Dawah inside the community or outside the community?
I feel there is a big human analysis that can be used to describe this situation (PHD material) - Dint get a decent childhood and hence is inclination towards "inside" the community and other such philosophical jargon just to say that this person needs to be corrected.
[2] why are the workers in whole food/organic stores all tattooed and pierced with long unkept hair or prmoting gothic cultures?

I didn't really get the first question, but here's my answer to the second one:
Because to eat organic/ reservative- free food is not the norm in society.
Most people conform to eating the mainstream produce, whether by conscious choice, lack of information, or financial restrictions since it's cheaper.
On a parallel note, those with tatooes/ excessive piercings/ are non- conformist, and choose to march to the beat of their own drum. So it makes sense for them to work at such places.
Or, it could be a totally random coincidence and my theory would be shot to the ground :)
[1] - PhD material? I was just trying to make some say that both are right. But again.. we should look for dynamics/benefits of both.
[2]mostly hippies and gothic ppl are as BK said non-conformist.. I like those ppl.. and some/most of them are vegans.. so it makes sense..

i presumed that eating organic/preservative free food is only afforded by the niche of society. Hence atleast they dont have to be rebellious etc etc.
anyways i have a long way to go before i understand hippie culture ('my cousin is Rain and I am Sunshine')
I like hippies and gypsies(for diff reason).. except their uncleanliness (some are clean)...
my roomate was getting too much into organic food.. soy milk....... it tastes so bad....I use whole milk...
now I "brought" him back to main stream...
t1- sometimes the rich kids who have nothing else to do but be rebellious are the ones who turn to 'hippie' or goth culture...
t2- the negatives of soy far outweigh the positives- over 90% of it is genetically modified and it contains the highest amount of pesticides of any food consumed.

yes, that was the reason.. an article talked about more health concerns abou t it... and some japanese related issues.. it also talked about 'sushi' being not so healthy food, contrary to popular knowledge...
